WHAT IS THE AIR CARGO CHALLENGE?

The Air Cargo Challenge (ACC) is one of the most prestigious university aeronautical engineering competitions in Europe. Since its first edition in Lisbon in 2003, the ACC brings together teams from universities around the world with a common challenge: designing and building a radio-controlled aircraft capable of carrying the maximum possible payload within technical constraints that change every edition.

The 2026 edition was held in Stuttgart, Germany, organized by Akamodell Stuttgart e.V. Flight rounds took place at the MFV Böblingen airfield.

AeroUD from the University of Udine, Italy won the competition in Stuttgart and they will have the honour to host the 2028 Air Crago Challenge.

BACK WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The story of Atlas began in 2007 when a group of passionate mechanical engineering students from the University of Patras shared a common dream: to represent Greece in the European Air Cargo Challenge (ACC), an international aeronautical engineering competition established in Portugal in 2003.

For a decade, the original Atlas team successfully competed in six editions of the ACC, consistently pushing the boundaries of student-led aircraft design. Their efforts culminated in a career-high 6th place finish in 2011, firmly establishing the team’s presence on the European stage. After the 2017 competition, the project was put on an indefinite hiatus.

In 2022, the legacy was reborn. Revived under the new name Atlas M.ACH, the team was restructured as a strategic collaboration between EUROAVIA Patras and the Applied Manufacturing Laboratory (AML) of the University of Patras.

In the 2024 ACC in Aachen, Germany, Atlas M.ACH secured a highly commendable 13th place with our aircraft, “Aether“.

Building on that momentum, the team traveled to Stuttgart for the 2026 ACC—the largest and most competitive edition in the event’s history! Competing against a record-breaking 37 teams from across the globe, Atlas M.ACH successfully claimed 14th place, proving our consistency and engineering resilience on an expanding international stage.

Our sights are now firmly set on the future as we design, optimize, and manufacture our next aircraft. Our next stop is the Air Cargo Challenge 2028 in Udine, Italy, where we aim to reach new heights and continue the proud legacy of the University of Patras.
